The possibility of having a negative figure in Annual Leave brought forward (b/f) could be caused by over-utilization of leave in the previous year entitlement. In other words, if there was a negative leave balance in the previous year leave entitlement, upon reconciliation of the leave balance in the following year, the negative balance will be brought forward (b/f) to the following year entitlement.
The negative balance in the previous year was most likely caused by advance leave application whereby employee had applied for more leave than the entitled leave within the year.
For example, employee Ali had an annual leave balance of 1 day in December 2019. However, the employee had applied for 2 days of annual leave in the same year. This resulted in a negative balance whereby upon the leave approval, the employee had a balance of -1.00 day annual leave.
Once the leave entitlement for the year 2020 was generated, the reconciliation of leave balance from the previous year resulted in a negative b/f as shown below. Since the employee
